Shopping with Secure Online Account Numbers
How do I shop using secure account numbers?
If you downloaded Secure Online Account Numbers and you have the secure account numbers setting selected, click the "Fill Form" button, and a secure account number, Valid Through (Expiration) date and CID (security code) will be generated and automatically entered into the "Credit Card Number" field(s) of the online merchant's checkout form.
If you are using the Web version, follow these steps:
- Click "Launch Now" button on the Secure Online Account Numbers main page to get a secure number. Sign in with your Account Center user ID and password.

For online retailers where I've already used my Discover Card, how do I add a secure account number?
Each online retailer has a different process for adding credit card options. If you already have a shopping profile at a site, sign in and follow instructions for editing or adding additional credit cards.
Should I ever use my actual Discover Card number instead of a secure account number?
You are not required to use secure account numbers. However, with a few specific exceptions, we recommend using the added security of secure account numbers. You should consider using your actual Discover Card account number when a retailer requires you to show your actual plastic Discover Card to receive your purchase. This may occur with airline or movie tickets. If you are uncertain, we suggest that you contact the retailer directly.
How can I use my actual Discover Card account number instead of secure account numbers?
When you first download Secure Online Account Numbers, the secure account numbers feature will be turned on. If you wish to change this setting, click the "Settings" link at the top of Secure Online Account Numbers and select your preference.
If you are using Secure Online Account Numbers from Discovercard.com, your only option is to use secure account numbers.
When do secure account numbers expire?
Secure account numbers always expire on the same date as your actual Discover Card account number. When your Discover Card is reissued with a new expiration date, it will be necessary to update the expiration information on any retailer's Web site where you have stored your actual card number or any secure account numbers.
How do I view the purchases I've made with secure account numbers?
Select "Past Purchases" within the Secure Online Account Numbers application. Secure Online Account Numbers will display up to 50 past purchases made with secure account numbers. These purchases will also appear on your paper and online statements with your other Discover Card purchases.
Will secure account numbers work with recurring purchases and split shipments?
Yes, secure account numbers work for one or multiple purchases at a single online retailer. For example, Barnes & Noble.com can retain a secure account number in your profile for future purchases. You can also use a secure account number for recurring charges at an online retailer, such as your monthly Internet Service Provider fee.
Is there a limit to how many secure account numbers I can use?
No, you can generate and use as many as you need. For additional security, however, you will only be able to maintain a limited number of unused secure account numbers.

The Secure Online Account Number User ID and password are the same as your Account Center User ID and password. If you are unable to log into Secure Online Account Numbers using your Account Center information, please check the following:
Ensure you are able to log into the Account Center with your User ID and password. If you cannot, try using your Discover Card account number instead of your User ID to verify if the password is correct.

Passwords longer than ten characters may work with the Account Center, but will cause problems for the Secure Online Account Numbers feature.
To protect the security of your account, we limit the number of unsuccessful log in attempts that can occur in one day. Please allow 24 hours for Secure Online Account Numbers to reset itself if you have exceeded the allowed number of unsuccessful log in attempts.
Why doesn't Secure Online Account Numbers fill in the account number?
Some sites use forms that break up an account number into four fields of four digits each, instead of a single field of 16 digits. Secure Online Account Numbers is unable to fill in the account number on these sites. To use a Secure Number for this site, please select "Form Fill" before you get to the form and use "Drag-n-Drop" to generate the Secure Number. Write the number down and enter it by hand where the account number is requested.
